Planning A Visit To Weardale House

The flow chart below outlines some items to consider when planning a visit

Outline proposal to head teacher, evc or relevant trip approval officer seeking approval. Proposals might include:

  •  Visit's objectives - Many of our activities dovetail with national curriculum key stages.
  •  Likely date, duration, venue.
  •  Pupil group, staffing.
  •  Resources, estimates of costs.

    Planning

  • Contact our Booking Office on 0191-3853085. Have we any places for your preferred dates?
  • What are the transport options?
  • Who would lead the group and who would help supervise it?
  • Who would pay for the visit?
  • Risk Assessment. Exploratory visit?
  • Obtain the Weardale House Risk Assessment. (download from 'risk assessment link above) and contact bookings office for a provisional booking.

    Proposal to head teacher, evc or trip approval officer.

  • Details of dates, risk assessments, emergency procedures, transport, insurance, costs, group membership, staffing.

    Obtain approval to prepare the visit subject to satisfactory preparation from head, evc, etc. Acquire a completed copy of form OS6 from Weardale House. (can be downloaded from the 'risk assessments' link above) Some LEA's may have a different form.

    Final preparation - Information to and from parents. Briefing evening. Brief pupils. Deposits/full payments by parents.

    Obtain final approval from governors and parental consents. Submit forms to Educational visits advisor or trip approval officer.

    Go on visit monitoring the risks at all times in association with centre staff, using their technical expertise as required.

    Evaluate the trip, providing feedback if necessary.
