History of Weardale House
Weardale House was built in the early 1900's and was originally used as offices and later as a private house by the Manager of the Weardale Lead Mining Company. Weardale House was developed in to a field study centre during the 1950's. In 1989 the building took on the current mantle of Weardale House Outdoor Education Centre and has been operating successfully ever since.
Ideally situated in the beautiful surroundings of Upper Weardale in the heart of the North Pennines, our five acres of grounds, which include a sports field, gardens and small woodland, provide the perfect base for our wide range of outdoor activity based programmes. In the grounds we also have an excellent ropes course and a dry ski slope, which very effectively complement the traditional activities.
